How to Create Affective and Social Values in Education

Education is a long journey conducted by human looking for the main value of their life. It will be created in many ways such as informal (family domain), formal (school domain), and non formal (society domain) situations. The important point of education is how to make people aware that they come to the world not just to be only human with nice physical appearance but they have something to develop to bring the positive values to build entire world. They have brain to think, they have heart to feel and they have dream to make themselves successful in the future.

Related to affective and social values, everybody has opportunity to develop theirs because the values originally have been existing to human since the first time they appeared. We cannot grow the values using barbell or sports facilities for physical training and we cannot encourage them only one night. But all needs the long process. And if we talk about the values, automatically we need to be the figures who make it real. As the teachers if we need to develop affective and social values on students, we have to directly coming as an example. The students will see our attitude. The students will observe how we treat others. The students will look to our communication styles. The students will feel our touching and caring to the environment.

Moreover, the teachers should not let themselves giving up to students in every situation and condition. We have to believe to our students and give them chance to improve their skills. The teachers can stand on the behind, in front, or in the middle of their students for supporting them. Explaining to students how we need each other and why we have to responsible to our actions is another function of teachers. Because being a teacher is not as easy as cooking the foods that we just make sure that all the materials are balancing and the result will be satisfied. But these are students who come from different backgrounds  and traditions that we have to transfer not only knowledge but also values to them.
